About EMETTS
EMETTS is a specialist technical training institution under TRADOC that develops artisans and technicians for the Ghana Armed Forces while also supporting affiliated civil qualification pathways.
Brief history and background
EMETTS began life as the Technical Training Group (TTG) of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps. TTG was formed on 16 January 1978 at Chinchillas to train EME personnel to man, repair and maintain the vehicles and equipment used by the Ghana Armed Forces. The school was formally designated EMETTS on 8 September 2008 and placed under the Military Academy and Training School, now TRADOC. The current structure includes a Commanding Officer, a Second-in-Command who also serves as Chief Instructor, and five training wings supporting administration and training delivery.
Core mandate
The core mandate of EMETTS is to plan, coordinate and train artisans and technicians of the three Services of the Armed Forces, together with Defence Civilian Staff of the Ministry of Defence. The training focus is the repair, maintenance and recovery of Ghana Armed Forces equipment under the responsibility of the EME Corps.

Infrastructure, partnerships and outlook
The present campus was made possible through support from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany working through GAFTAG. The support helped deliver a 7-classroom block, an administration block, two workshop blocks, a 70-man accommodation block, a 75-metre borehole and storage facility, the Thomas Muller Mechatronics Training Centre commissioned on 7 December 2023, and the Bernd Frei Hostel commissioned on 27 September 2024. The school acknowledges the long-standing partnership and remembers the GAFTAG personnel who lost their lives while serving in Ghana. Looking ahead, EMETTS aims to develop turnkey solutions to equipment challenges within the Ghana Armed Forces and to secure future accreditation for Mechatronics and Bachelor of Technology programmes.
The school's current growth reflects sustained support from the German Government through GAFTAG.
